The prosthodontic specialty is focused on improving and maintaining oral health, while also addressing aesthetic concerns. In restoring his patients’ teeth and making smiles beautiful, Dr. Fleigel is able to improve their quality of life. He finds this combination of science and art to be emotionally and intellectually fulling, with the added bonus of meeting so many interesting people.

The advanced specialty training Dr. Fleigel has received makes him an expert in improving appearances by restoring broken, discolored, mal-positioned, and misshapen teeth. By addressing these issues, he is also able to improve function, allowing people to comfortably and confidently eat the foods they love without discomfort. Improving people’s self-image and giving them the ability to properly chew, is all in a day’s work for Dr. Fleigel!

Background and Education

Dr. Jeffrey D. Fleigel, III was born in Woodbridge, Virginia and raised in Ocala, Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 2001, through the Health Professions Scholarship Program while attending the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

While attending dental school, Dr. Fleigel served as the first- and second-year class President, student delegate to the Florida Dental Association, and American Student Dental Association President.

He also earned numerous awards, including the:

  • American Student Dental Association Region 5 Delegate of the Year, 2003
  • Retired Uniform Services Scholarship Award
  • Americus Dental Labs Scholarship Award
  • International College of Dentists Leadership Award
  • American College of Prosthodontists Award
  • Pierre Fauchard Academy Foundation Annual Scholarship Award

Dr. Fleigel was also the first inductee to the University of Florida Hall of Fame from the College of Dentistry.

Dr. Fleigel graduated dental school in 2005 with High Research Honors and earning membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Upon graduation from dental school, he was re-commissioned as a Captain in the Dental Corps and accepted into a residency in Prosthodontics at Wilford Hall Medical Center.

While a resident, Dr. Fleigel earned the American College of Prosthodontists Education Foundation Scholarship Award. In addition to successful completion of his Prosthodontic Residency, Dr. Fleigel earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio Health Science Center in 2008.

Professional Affiliations, Activities, and Continuing Education

Dr. Fleigel is a member of the American Dental Association and the American College of Prosthodontists. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a published author in medical and prosthodontic clinical journals, and a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Prosthodontics. Additionally, he is the Chairman and Founder of the Andrew J. Semesco Foundation for oral cancer research, a non-profit organization based in Ocala, Florida.

Dr. Fleigel has also delivered continuing dental education presentations as a Training and Education Provider for Biomet 3i Synergy Training Program, a dental implant company, throughout the United States.

In 2011, Dr. Fleigel was a co-presenter at the American Dental Association 2011 Annual Session in Las Vegas, Nevada, “Treatment options for the replacement of missing mandibular incisors.” This presentation was based on the information in a publication by Dr. Fleigel and two colleagues in the Journal of Prosthodontics.

Dr. Fleigel believes ongoing education allows for growth and a deeper, more comprehensive understanding of complex care. Some examples of complex care include advanced prosthodontics, dental implants, oral surgery, and occlusion. By constantly furthering his own education and gaining knowledge of emerging research, Dr. Fleigel is able to consistently provide his patients with excellent, high-quality care with predictable, stable, and aesthetically pleasing results.

Experience

Dr. Fleigel has practiced dentistry since 2005 and Prosthodontics since 2008. He has practiced full-time in Panama City since 2016, with a practice limited to dental implant restorations and removable prosthodontics. He has treatment planned and completed over 1000 complex full arch implant restorations and has extensive experience with dental implant, complete denture, and partial denture treatments.

Helping Others

Apart from his prosthodontic practice, Dr. Fleigel regularly travels throughout the Florida panhandle providing in-residence dental care to individuals at skilled nursing centers. He is grateful for the opportunity to provide this service to his community and feels passionate about helping everyone maintain good oral health.

Personal Life

Dr. Fleigel and his wife, Holly Fleigel, have been married for over ten years. They have two sons, Zach and Ryan, and recently adopted two kitten, Tiger and Nala. Passionate about family, Dr. Fleigel makes a point to spend as much time with his wife and children as possible. He especially enjoys their time outdoors, relaxing on the water and taking in the beautiful scenery throughout the area. During football season, he can be found following his alma mater, University of Florida, as well.
